NEW YORK, January 27, 2026 – The Asian American Business Development Center (AABDC) announces the special celebration of the Lunar New Year, which this year is collaborating with America’s 250th anniversary of independence.
As a Supporting Partner to America250, the national, nonpartisan organization charged by Congress to lead celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. AABDC will welcome the Year of the Horse on February 12 at the historic Federal Hall National Memorial in New York City.
Lunar New Year is celebrated by an estimated two billion people around the world, and includes not just China and its vast diaspora, but also Vietnam, South Korea and Mongolia. This important festival symbolizes renewal, resilience, family, and hope, which align with the spirit of America during this momentous year-long celebration of the United States Semiquincentennial.
“Celebrating Lunar New Year and America250 together is a powerful statement that America’s past, present, and future are shaped by many cultures, and that honoring heritage strengthens—rather than divides—the nation. It is both a celebration of roots and a reaffirmation of belonging in the American story,” said John Wang, founder and president of AABDC.
Just as Chinese laborers built the Transcontinental Railroad that created a nationwide connection of America’s economies 150 years ago, Asian Americans today are actively leading the “digital railroad” of artificial intelligence and other future technologies that will position this nation to succeed globally.
In parallel, AABDC is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its nationwide recognition program the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business this year. This initiative has honored more than 1,200 high-achieving corporate executives, entrepreneurs and C-Suite professionals since its inception.
Along with the customary lively Lion Dance and cultural performances during the Lunar New Year event, AABDC will be honoring Asian Americans who serve in public office: the Honorable William Tong, the 25th Attorney General to serve Connecticut.
Attorney General Tong is serving his second term and as the son of immigrant small business owners, he is a role model for not just the Asian American community but a shining example of an American success story.
“It is fitting that our theme for this year’s Lunar New Year event is showing appreciation and honor to those from our community who tirelessly serve in public office for the benefit of all Americans,” Wang said. “Leaders like William Tong take pride in their Asian heritage and are playing an important role in shaping the nation’s next chapter.”
Since 2000, AABDC has spearheaded the Lunar New Year festival, partnering with the Empire State Building to light up the iconic tower in the auspicious colors of red and gold. The festival has been ushered in at the executive suite at Macy’s Headquarters and at the Magic Room at the LVMH Tower in midtown in previous years.
