Joanna Lau

CEO & Founder, Lau Acquisition Corporation


Joanna is a Director, Trustee, CEO and entrepreneur. She founded Lau Acquisition Corporation d/b/a Lau Technologies in 1990. The company provided debt and equity financing, and consulting services to various industries. For over a decade, Lau Defense division delivered state of the art products to the US Army and Air Force. The division was sold to Curtiss-Wright Corporation, a NYSE company in 2001.

Lau Security Division was the first in the world to introduce facial recognition technology into driver’s licenses and secure documents, access control and surveillance. The division went public in 1996 as Viisage Technology Inc., and merged into L1 Identity and Security Systems, now a division of BAE. Under Joanna’s leadership, Lau Defense received the Army Contractor Excellence Award for the work on Desert Storm, the Nunn-Perry Award for Mentor Protégé program, and the R.J. Collier Trophy for the Global Hawk Program. Joanna is a member of the Board of the National Defense Industrial Association, a member of the Young President Organization, and a Director of Designer Brand Inc.

Joanna received an MBA from Boston University, a MS in Computer Science from Old Dominion University and a BS in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics from SUNY at Stony Brook.
