AABDC hosted a luncheon for Senator Gillibrand
On October 20th, AABDC hosted a “Meet & Greet” luncheon for U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand at the law offices of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe in New York.
During the Q & A session, Asian American business entrepreneurs and professionals have identified and discussed with Senator Gillibrand several major issues facing the Asian American business community including how to better assist Asian American small and medium-sized businesses in international trade and business partnership with further support from the state and the department of commerce. In the meantime, AABDC alongside other international trade and business organizations undoubtedly will continue to play a vital role in assisting Asian American businesses in entering emerging markets in Asia.

AABDC President John Wang and Senator Smith Attended the 7th World Congress on High Speed Rail in Beijing, China
At the invitation of Minister Liu Zhijun of Ministry of Railway, People’s Republic of China, Senator Malcolm. A. Smith, President Pro Tempore of the New York State Senate and AABDC President John Wang attended the 7th World Congress on High Speed Rail, which convened in Beijing from December 7th through 9th, 2011. Senator Smith was invited to sit on the panel of the Congress and spoke at the opening session of the Congress on high speed rail development in the United States and in New York State.
Coordinated by U.S.-China High Speed Rail Group (formed by the New York in China Center, an affiliate to AABDC), a subsequent meeting was hosted by Minister Liu to welcome the visit of Senator Smith. Minister Liu and Senator Smith have both expressed great desire to work together on the development of high speed rail in New York State. The Senator Smith extended an invitation to the Ministry of Railway to send a team of high speed rail experts to New York to share China’s experience with the newly formed New York State High Speed Rail Planning Board. In addition, Senator Smith suggested organizing a delegation of the New York State High Speed Rail Planning Board to visit China to study high speed rail development.
2011 Lunar New Year
Asian American Business Development Center hosted its annual Lunar New Year Gala Reception at the historic Federal Hall National Memorial at 26 Wall Street in New York City on February 1, 2011.
The event honored four Asian American News Anchorwomen– Cindy Hsu for CBS, Vivian Lee for NY1, Sapna Parikh for Fox, and Lucy Yang for ABC for their outstanding contribution and inspiration to the Asian American Community and their service as mistress of ceremony for the past annual “Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Award” galas.
Three proclamation letters came respectively from U.S. Senator of New York Kirsten Gillibrand, the newly elected New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City comptroller John Liu, who unanimously commended AABDC for its contribution and years of efforts in promoting the development of Asian American Businesses in the Greater New York area.
The event was attended by over 160 distinguished guests including Event Honorary Chairs New York City comptroller John Liu, City Council members Peter Koo and Margaret Chin, State Council member Grace Meng; as well as business and civil leaders and philanthropists.
The evening commenced with a dynamic traditional Lion dance, which was followed by AABDC President John Wang’s welcome speech and introduction of the special guests including Consul Generals from Asian Countries such as Mr. Dong Xiaojun, Deputy Consul General of China; Mr. Mamoru Shinohara, Acting Consul General of Japan, Nak-young Joo, Deputy Consul General of Korea and Jung-youl Park Consul Generals of Korea etc.
“I feel really humbled actually to have received this award because they’re recognizing me for community service,” said Vivian Lee, one of the four honorees and the NY 1 news anchor. Lee’s parents flew in from Toronto to attend the award ceremony at the Lunar New Year Reception.
The evening was concluded by the vibrant traditional Korean dance, Chinese Kungfu performance while guests were enjoying Asian culinary delights and holiday drinks provided by Moet & Chandon and Hennessy.
